During November, the women at our partner agencies learned how to turn worn t-shirts and scrap fabric into little eye pillows filled with scented rice.
The women learned how to machine and hand-sew the little pillows. They loved creating their own blends of essential oils to scent the rice they poured into their pillows. The pillows can be heated in a microwave or cooled in a freezer before placing them over tired eyes or sore necks.
A participant from St. Patrick’s Center let us know that “I learned a new innovative way to use rice, oils, and fabric to make something useful for sleep.”
Materials Used: Worn T-shirts, rice, essential oils
Skills Taught: How to use a sewing machine, how to hand sew a blanket stitch, how to use essential oils
