In honor of Earth Month, we’ve been making mini insect hotels with the women of St. Patrick Center, the Center for Women in Transition, Lydia’s House, and Shalom House. These little tin-can homes help attract beneficial insects and pollinators to gardens.
Our artists taught the women about our declining bee populations and the importance of creating habitats for bee and other insects to live in. Each woman created a custom home for our winged-friends, and in some of our workshops, the participants had the chance to walk to nearby parks and gardens and install their creations.
One participant was even inspired to share the project with her kids, noting, “My kids will have a creative summer for free! I can use materials from around the house and outside.”
