Green Neighbors is a quarterly Perennial outreach event that began in 2021 with hopes to grow and evolve. Each Green Neighbors event features a reuse craft, education on a local environmental justice topic through guest speakers and demonstrations, and food from a local vendor. The 4 part series is open to residents of Perennial’s surrounding neighborhoods (Dutchtown, Marine Villa, Gravois Park, and Mount Pleasant) and gives individuals and families a fun and unique opportunity to expand their concept of sustainability while enjoying the company of neighbors.

Perennial’s July 2021 Green Neighbors event was titled Earth-Friendly Habits. It was hosted at Marquette Park in Dutchtown and featured a local artisan’s demonstration of homemade nontoxic laundry soap. Participants created DIY storage jars, beeswax wraps, and reusable napkins while enjoying coffee and lemonade from a local woman-owned coffee shop. Participants also had the opportunity to interact with a representative from a local community program who discussed their efforts to research the effects of environmental racism.

While each event varies in location, topic, and craft, Perennial’s aim is to bring these South City neighborhoods access to sustainability and community engagement.
