Oil painting can be a sustainable and environmentally friendly practice, if you know the right tricks and techniques. Make a monochrome oil painting using an old masters oil transfer technique with little to no waste. Neeka Allsup has been oil painting for 20 years and knows exactly how much paint to put on a palette – a tiny amount! You will learn how to only use what you need.

You will receive a pre-gessoed piece of wood that fits the salvaged frame of your choice (there will be 6 choices, first come first served so get to class on time!) Instead of using terpenoid, in this class you will learn how to use walnut, poppy and clove oils as paint thinners and wetness extenders. You’ll even learn how to save unused paint for your next project and how to properly clean your brush. A brush in use never dries out, and neither does a brush dipped in clove oil (for a few weeks or months anyway!)

Class Policy

Cancellation Policy: Perennial reserves the right to cancel, combine or reschedule classes to adjust for enrollment. If Perennial cancels a class, you may transfer to another class or receive a full refund.

Refund Policy: Notice of withdrawal from a workshop must be made at least 14 days prior to the start of the class. No refunds will be given for withdrawals made after that time. No refunds or credits will be given for classes missed due to illness, personal conflict or other reasons. There are no exceptions to this policy. Please e-mail classes@perennialstl.org if you wish to withdraw from a workshop.

Child Participation Policy: Curious about your creative, resourceful kiddo participating in the Perennial mission through a class? Since our classes are geared towards adult beginners, we will assess child participation on a class by class basis. Please email classes@perennialstl.org or call us at 314-832-2288 before signing them up. Please note that we cannot accommodate children younger than 12 years old. For children under 16 years of age, both the child and their guardian will need to purchase a ticket and participate in the class together.
