Skills you’ll learn:
quilt design, piecing, quilting

Learn foundational improv quilting techniques from start to finish while making a functional potholder, or beginning a larger quilt project! With the improv quilting technique, you’ll work in an intuitive manner to piece as you go to create a unique, freeform design. We’ll work with reclaimed fabrics to piece together your top. Learn how to plan out your color scheme, cut fabric, and begin sewing the top of your potholder from the center with a straight stitch. We’ll discuss how to choose the correct batting for the inside, and you’ll back the quilted piece with a larger piece of fabric. Lastly, the class will learn how to bind the edging to create a finished look.

Improv quilts work great with reclaimed fabrics like bedsheets, pillowcases, dress shirts, jeans, and other cotton fabrics from around your home.

Participants should have basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine or have taken Perennial’s Sewing Machine Basics workshop.
