Learn how to collect rain water in your own backyard with a rain barrel! A local gardening expert from the Earthways Center will give a talk on the importance + benefits of rainwater collection for the watershed and for your home. After the talk, Perennial staff will lead the class in altering their food-safe 55-gallon drums to transform them into rain collectors, and will instruct on ways to incorporate them into your yard, including creating a base to elevate them, and demonstrating how to connect them to your gutters. Additional hardware may be required to connect to your gutters at home, but a basic setup will be provided.
This is a live virtual class that will be conducted via Zoom, and participants will be emailed instructions about how to participate prior to class. You will be provided with kits that include a 55-gallon barrel, spigot, connector pieces, and hole saw drill bits, which can be picked up on Friday, May 29 from 12:00 – 2:00pm. You must have your own power drill to participate, or you can inquire with firstname.lastname@example.org about securing a loaner tool from us.
