In this workshop\, you will harvest plants from Perennial’s Outdoor Classroom + learn how to process them for basketry. As you’ll learn in class\, each plant for basket making is best harvested at a specific time in the year. As certain plants work best for certain basket shapes\, the shape of the basket and specific weaving technique you will learn in class is dependent on which plants are ready for harvest at the time of class. Come with an open mind\, ready to learn a new basket shape! \n

Your instructor Amy will show you different techniques for using up that leftover wax from your candle jar\, so you can repurpose the jar and the wax. Participants may bring used candles jars from home that are 8 ounces or smaller or can use ones we have stocked up. With candle leftovers combining in multiple melting pots\, this class truly harnesses the power of community + reuse. \n

In this class\, you’ll go on a foraging field trip down our alleys (weather permitting) to learn how to identify plants that offer strong fibers for making cordage\, commonly known as string. You’ll then ethically harvest those fibers from the plants and learn how to properly dry and wrap those fibers to create cords you can use for a variety of projects. \n
