DESCRIPTION:Materials saved from the landfill:\nwood \nSkills you’ll learn:\ncarving\, shaping\, sanding wood \nPlease note\, this two-day workshop takes place on Tuesdays\, May 26 + June 2 from 6pm – 8pm each night. \nHandmade wooden scoops and spoons make beautiful heirloom pieces and wonderful host gifts. The class will lead you through basic hand carving skills to create a wood spoon or scoop from reclaimed hardwood. Participants will use a carving knife\, spoon gouge\, and sand paper to shape and refine their piece. The class will also cover proper care for wooden utensils using Perennial’s homemade wood wax. \n

We’ll cover some DIY mat-cutting processes and even how to cover the mat with fabric for a fresh look. This is a demonstration class. Participants will not leave with a framed artwork but the knowledge to tackle their next picture framing project sustainably. \n

DESCRIPTION:Materials saved from the landfill:\ncotton bedsheets\, natural fabrics \nSkills you’ll learn:\nShibori dyeing\, kumo and itajime resist techniques \nShibori\, aka Japanese tie dye\, is a multifaceted art where you can tie\, fold\, and stitch your way to a whole new look for tired linens\, clothes\, and more. In this class\, participants will get to sample several different traditional shibori techniques\, including kumo\, which involves tying and binding your fabric\, and itajime\, which involves clamping your fabric. We will provide approximately 2 square feet of fabric for each dyeing technique. We’ll be using indigo dye to dip into a vibrant\, striking blue you’re sure to love. \nUse these techniques outside of class to revive your old sheets\, pillowcases\, or articles of clothing! \n

DESCRIPTION:Custom framing can be pricey\, but this DIY framing process will give you contemporary frames for just a few bucks + your time! Participants will leave this workshop with a handmade 8″x10″ wood picture frame. In the first session\, we will learn to cut frame stock from reclaimed 2x4s\, and practice measuring\, cutting\, and clamping custom sized frames. In the second session we’ll use framing tools to secure our work\, learn to cut glass\, and apply finishing touches to our wood and frame assembly. \n  \nPlease note\, this two-day workshop takes place on Saturdays\, May 30 + June 6 from 10am – 12pm each day. \n
