DESCRIPTION:Materials saved from the landfill:\nwood \nSkills you’ll learn:\ncarving\, shaping\, sanding wood \nPlease note\, this two-day workshop takes place on Tuesdays\, September 2 + 9 from 6pm – 8pm each night. \nHandmade wooden scoops and spoons make beautiful heirloom pieces and wonderful host gifts. The class will lead you through basic hand carving skills to create a wood spoon or scoop from reclaimed hardwood. Participants will use a carving knife\, spoon gouge\, and sand paper to shape and refine their piece. The class will also cover proper care for wooden utensils using Perennial’s homemade wood wax. \n

This circular weaving technique creates a beautifully textured + colorful round work of art while breathing new life into secondhand fabric and yarn. No weaving experience is necessary to take this class. You’ll use an embroidery hoop that’s lost its mate to warp and weave. Finally\, you’ll decide if you’d like to take the weaving off the loom so you can reuse it\, or keep the weaving on the loom and hang it as the masterpiece it is. \n

The class will cover the basics of making a crocheted rag rug out of recycled fabrics. This workshop will cover from start to finish how to construct a rag rug\, from cutting the fabric to simple crochet techniques\, including the chain stitch and single crochet stitch. Participants will get started on a small circular rug which they can finish crafting at their leisure! Class fee includes fabric and a handmade crochet hook. You are welcome to use your own cotton bed sheets or t-shirts to customize your rug colors. \n

DESCRIPTION:Have you learned a skill at Perennial and are ready to put it into action? Get to work in the shop and make your DIY dreams a reality! Come with your own ideas\, designs\, and materials (or purchase some here) and craft alongside other sustainable makers. \nIn order to use Perennial tools\, you must be trained on safety and proper usage from taking a Perennial class. For example\, to use the Chop Saw in the woodshop you should have taken Tools 101 Power Saws\, to use a soldering iron in the ReUse Studio you should have taken a soldering class. \nFor more information about Open Studio\, check out our FAQ page. \nEach 2 hour session is $15. \nTools available in the Woodshop include: table saw\, chop saw\, jig saw\, drill press\, power drills\, belt sander\, planer\, lathe\, and traditional hand woodworking tools. \nTools available in the ReUse Studio include: sewing machines and sewing/quilting tools\, soldering irons\, upholstery tools\, leather working tools\, mosaic supplies\, blenders\, dye pots\, pans and bowls\, hot plates\, measuring spoons\, cutting mats\, tapestry looms\, paper-making supplies\, wine bottle cutters\, mark-making tools\, and more! \n
