DESCRIPTION:Materials saved from the landfill:\nbarrels\, wood\, hardware \nSkills you’ll learn:\ncompost tips\, construction\, sawing\, drilling \nPlease note: This is a two-part workshop that takes place on Thursdays\, March 26 + April 2 from 6-8pm both nights. \nLearn how to compost your food scraps and build your own bin with Perennial. A local gardening expert from Seed St. Louis will give a talk on composting at home and the dos and don’ts of composting. After the talk\, Perennial will lead the class in building their own compost tumblers from a barrel and salvaged wood. Participants will learn to use the chop saw\, jig saw\, and drill to build their compost bin. \nThis class may take place outside (weather-depending) in Perennial’s education garden. \n

DESCRIPTION:Materials saved from the landfill:\nhardware\, barrel \nSkills you’ll learn:\nrain barrel tips\, construction\, drilling \nLearn how to collect rain water in your own backyard with a rain barrel! A local gardening expert will give a talk on the importance + benefits of rainwater collection for the watershed and for your home. After the talk\, Perennial staff will lead the class in altering their food-safe 55-gallon drums to transform them into rain collectors\, and will instruct on ways to incorporate them into your yard\, including creating a base to elevate them\, and demonstrating how to connect them to your downspout. Additional hardware may be required to connect to your downspout at home or to winterize your barrel\, but a basic setup will be provided. The setup and parts provided in class ONLY work with a rectangular downspout that is 2″ x 3″ or 3″ x 4″. Come to class with pictures of your home and downspout options\, and the instructor will give advice on the best place to connect your rain barrel and how to alter your barrel for its new home. \n
