DESCRIPTION:Materials saved from the landfill:\nhardware\, barrel \nSkills you’ll learn:\nrain barrel tips\, construction\, drilling \nLearn how to collect rain water in your own backyard with a rain barrel! A local gardening expert will give a talk on the importance + benefits of rainwater collection for the watershed and for your home. After the talk\, Perennial staff will lead the class in altering their food-safe 55-gallon drums to transform them into rain collectors\, and will instruct on ways to incorporate them into your yard\, including creating a base to elevate them\, and demonstrating how to connect them to your downspout. Additional hardware may be required to connect to your downspout at home or to winterize your barrel\, but a basic setup will be provided. The setup and parts provided in class ONLY work with a rectangular downspout that is 2″ x 3″ or 3″ x 4″. Come to class with pictures of your home and downspout options\, and the instructor will give advice on the best place to connect your rain barrel and how to alter your barrel for its new home. \n

DESCRIPTION:Materials saved from the landfill:\nhardwood scraps \nSkills you’ll learn:\npattern-making\, laminating\, sawing\, planing\, sanding\, finishing \nPlease note\, this two-day workshop takes place on Tuesdays\, March 16 + 23 from 6pm – 9pm each night. \nCreate your own custom cutting board in this two-day workshop! The class will lead you through the process of making your own wood cutting board from a variety of hardwood remnants. In the first session\, participants will design their board pattern\, laminate\, and clamp their board together. The class will regroup for the second session to saw\, plane\, and shape their chopping board. Participants will learn the proper care of wood cutting boards and apply Perennial’s food safe and homemade wood wax to keep their boards in good condition. \n
