Plant stands let you reclaim your terrain by creating more dynamic living arrangements and bringing foliage to different levels. In this class, you will create a one-of-a-kind plant stand inspired by mid-century design. You will learn tool safety and basic building techniques that can apply to a variety of helpful structures. We will cover material selection and how to use a hand saw and chisels to make quick and strong joints for your stand’s legs and platform, held together with wood glue. Finally, we’ll discuss and sample different finishes to protect and beautify your creation.
This is a virtual class that will be conducted via Zoom. Registrants will be emailed information about how to participate prior to the class. You will be able to pick up a kit of materials to make a 10″ tall stand containing wood, a terracotta pot, wood glue, and t-shirt rags. Pickup is on Tuesday, November 24, 3-5pm, or you can email email@example.com to arrange a different time. If you do not already have the tools at home, you will also be required to pay a deposit to rent tools for the class, including a miter box, hand saw, 1/2-3/4″ chisel, clamps, measuring tape, speed square, mallet, and file.
