Materials saved from the landfill:
Skills you’ll learn:
making a stencil, stamping, gel medium transfers
Adorn the surface of salvaged brick and wood with a variety of decorative patterns and textures. In this class, participants will learn several transfer techniques that can be used on a variety of surfaces, including gel medium transfers from old book pages and stamping with eco-friendly milk paint. We will cover the basics of stencil design and construction, and participants will leave with a few samples of decorated surfaces for their home.
This project was created as a part of a community design project for A Way, Away (Listen While I Say) by Chicago-based artists Amanda Williams and Andres L. Hernandez. A Way, Away was a continuation of PXSTL, a series of design-build commissions organized by the Pulitzer Arts Foundation and the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.
