Materials saved from the landfill:
denim jeans, bricks
Skills you’ll learn:
pattern-making, machine straight stitching
Learn the basics of pattern-making as you create a custom doorstop. Using bricks salvaged from a St. Louis building and unwanted denim jeans, participants will learn to draft a template to cover the brick. The natural weight of the brick makes for the perfect doorstop to use in your home.
This project was created as a part of a community design project for A Way, Away (Listen While I Say) by Chicago-based artists Amanda Williams and Andres L. Hernandez. A Way, Away was a continuation of PXSTL, a series of design-build commissions organized by the Pulitzer Arts Foundation and the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.
