Skills you’ll learn:
hot wax batik resist, tjanting tools, metal stamping, wax brush, natural dyes
Learn the ancient art of batik while experimenting with natural dyes! In this class, participants will work with hot beeswax to create a resist on salvaged fabric, using tjanting tools, metal stamps and brushed wax. Then students will learn to work with a cool water natural dye like indigo to make the white wax resist pop against the dyed fabric. Staff will demonstrate techniques to remove wax from fabric, which participants will do outside of class. Your finished fabric can then be used in a variety of handmade sewing projects to become a pillow or pouch, or simply as a tea towel!
