Japanese stab binding, also known as Fukuro Toji (bound-pocket books), is an artist’s bookmaking technique that employs a simple, classic sewing process to make a soft cover album. Participants in this class will learn paper folding, tearing, and sewing techniques using traditional bookbinders tools such as a bone folder and awl. Each participant will make at least 2 sewn albums, showcasing different stitching patterns. Participants are invited to use their own decorative paper (at least 6″x 12″) to personalize their covers, or use what Perennial provides!

This is an in-person class that will take place at Perennial. You will be assigned your own socially distanced work station, and will be encouraged to wear a mask while you are here. Our full policies can be found here.
